Calis
Beach Turkey
Calis Beach
is Fethiyes beach resort; it takes around twenty minutes to get there
by local bus (Dolmus) at a cost around 1.5 Turkish Lira. But far the
best way to get there is by Water taxi, these leave from the promenade
by the Harbour every 30 minutes, the fare to Calis is around 2.5 Turkish
Lira. The journey across the sheltered bay takes around 15 minutes,
the sea is usually very calm and the lovely views over Fethiye and the
surrounding islands offer a great photographic opportunity. The last
part of the journey is up a narrow river channel, the boats tying up
by a bridge which only thirty seconds from the promenade along the sea
front.
Even if
you visit Calis only once make sure you are there in the evening and
you will be treated to one of Turkeys most spectacular Sunsets, something
that Calis is particularly famous for. The long promenade is lined with
a good selection of bars and local restaurants serving a varied selection
of dishes, Turkish, Chinese, Indian, Mexican and Italian. Some recommended
restaurants are the Harem and the Bambu if like Turkish cuisine; the
Bambu also has an excellent Chinese menu and Chef. If your taste is
for Italian food then Bella Mammas is an excellent restaurant, and for
Indian the Han is your place. All the restaurants by the beach boast
spectacular views across to the islands, there's nothing better after
a hard day soaking up the Turkish sun that to relax with a cool drink,
some good food and watch a spectacular Calis sunset. Don't forget to
check out some of the other restaurants and bars away from the beach
front, these offer good food and a friendly Turkish welcome and can
be considerably cheaper than the ones on the Calis beach front.
The hotels
are well located mainly overlooking the sea or set just slightly back,
the accommodation is of a high standard. Private Villas and Apartments
are also available.
The beach
at Calis is mainly shingle, the views are wonderful, the sea is clear
and warm (most of the time). If you are lucky you may catch a glimpse
of one of the Sea Turtles or some of the Dolphins that frequent the
bay of Fethiye. One benefit at Calis during the scorching months of
July and August is the constant cooling onshore breeze, but beware it
is often a lot hotter than it feels. The beach is equipped with sun
lounges and parasols which can be hired at reasonable cost.
If you
like the water walk to the far end of the beach there you will find
a windsurfing school. The steady reliable wind is also good for kite
surfing which is starting to become popular in the Calis area.
If you
are looking to purchase a holiday or retirement home in Turkey, Calis
is excellent value at the moment. Well built Villas and Apartments are
springing up around the area many with private pools, these offer good
investment potential as well as rental income. Building standards have
improved hugely over the last couple of years and property prices are
rising steadily. Calis offers a good selection of properties at prices
that are cheaper than Fethiye and the surrounding areas of Ovacik Hisaronu
and Oludeniz. Estate Agents offices can be found in Calis and nearby
Fethiye.
