As well
as the larger package holiday companies such as Thomson's, Airtours,
Cosmos and Manos which all offer a good range of accommodation, smaller
Turkey specialist companies such as Tapestry holidays are well worth
a look at, as their brochures feature some simply spectacular Villa's
and Hotels.
As an alternative
from the traditional Hotel or Villa holiday many people visiting Turkey
now opt for a holiday with a difference and charter a Turkish Gulet
for the whole or part of their stay. Gulets are tradionally built wooden
sailing craft which have evolved from the boats which used to trade
along Turkey's coast line many years ago. Now offering much more luxurious
accommodation than their predecessors this is a fantastic way to explore
Turkey's coast. The vessels come fully crewed, so all you have to do
is sit back and take in the fabulous scenery, explore hidden coves and
swim in the crystal clear turquoise waters.
Turkey's
scenery varies dramatically from long sandy beaches lapped by turquoise
seas, pine forests, lush fertile plains to dramatic mountains. The holiday
season on Turkeys Mediterranean coast starts in mid April and ends in
late September. Temperatures range from a maximum 45C/113F, minimum
-5C/23F, the most pleasant months if you don't like it too hot, are
the early part of May and September.
Flights
to Turkey during the winter are now becoming available to major airports
and one recent development is the opening of a ski resort, so Turkey
is starting to become an all year holiday destination.
Turkeys
Turquoise Coast or the Turkish Riviera as it is sometimes referred to
is a must if your holiday destination is the Mediterranean this year,
choose from lively Bodrum or Marmaris, or for a quieter holiday but
not too quiet try the historic harbour town of Fethiye, beach resort
of Oludeniz, small harbour town of Kalkan full of Turkish charm or the
lovely town of Kas all excellent choices for those wanting to get away
from it all. If you just want a holiday relaxing by the pool or your
interests lie in historical site's, walking or sports such as sailing
or paragliding Turkey has something to offer for everyone.
